I wake up and head over to the Rockillers lair to find almost everyone passed out from the night before. Beer pong, hookah, mischief and mayhem are always the order of the evening, and it looks like last night was no exception. With a cup of coffee and a cigarette in my hand and a skate spot in mind it doesn’t take me very long to wake everyone up. We then mission to the spot and within the first five minutes they’re killing the rail like they all went to bed early with a full stomach of vegetables the previous night. With mottos like ‘go hard or go home’ and ‘you only live once so live it up’ we really push each other to the limit.
Rockillers is a rollerblading crew established back in 2002 with their rebirth in 2009. They're back, and bringing a whole new level to the game of aggressive sports. Sure rollerblades are attached to your feet but I personally dare you to slip on a pair, lace them up, and hurl yourself towards that chest-high rail or down that mega death gap like they do.
Rollerblading has progressed immensely over the past 10 years and since there is no major media coverage of the sport anymore, people still have that image of rollerblading when it first started - bright green shorts, pink tank-tops, and rolling around Venice Beach for a workout. But now we're talking about ‘aggressive inline’. Lately I've seen some of the craziest things ever done, like rails with a 50 foot drop on the other side which could end in brutal death.
The Rockillers hit the streets day in and day out with cameras to capture footage and take photos. With video clips piling up like hot cakes at ihop I asked Alejoh Candelo when the Rockillers video will be coming out and he said “November 2010, but look out for the new Kallusive commercial (Kallusive is one of our clothing sponsors and they made a commercial featuring rollerblading which will get aired in all Metropark clothing stores in the USA.)
Just to make it clear, the Rockillers don't hate rock music; it’s just a controversial name to get your attention. I asked the Rockillers to give me five words to describe what Rockillers’ crew is all about: blading, innovation, lifestyle, girls, and good times. The Rockillers house is a mix of different personalities made up of Iain Mcleod (who in my opinion is one of the best rollerbladers in the world, annihilating rails from coast to coast), Alejoh Candelo, who is all the way from Colombia and links his tricks with a butter smooth style, Demetrios George, aka ‘the Greek god’, who can jump higher than a puma, Winston Wardwell, well-known for his ruthlessly savage style and Tom Predergast from England, known for his super smoothness and MC rhymes.
The Rockillers are here to stay and to represent rollerblading till the day we die, if you would like to get weekly updates on our crew visit www.ROCKILLERS.com “We would also just like to give a shout-out to all the people who support the Rockillers movement; Colin Mcleod, Quinn Feldman, Connor O'Brien, Ozzie Sandoval and all the girls from the Lampost Special. I would also like to take a second and say thanks to all the sponsors that support Rockillers; Kallusive, USD, REMZ, Jin Joint, Creative Originals, and My Culture Magazine for putting people together. Shout-out to all the rollerbladers that keep on keeping on!
