“It started in 1996. I was on the bus, driving by, when I saw some graffiti pieces. At first I painted illegally, before I found out about the wall. Here, young and creative artists are given the opportunity to work on their creations and express themselves freely in worry-free conditions.” These are the words of Benjamin Schütt, one of the old-school local artists of the legal graffiti wall in Mannhiem, Sandhofen, Germany. The wall has become a mirror for the creative energy and talent of the town’s local graffiti artists. It is owned by a mirror factory which makes the whole thing beautifully ironic.
